SAYTR PLAY SECOND HAND EMOTION

There’s something recognisably punk about Manchester’s Saytr Play, with their alternative aesthetic, striking front man and heavy-handed performance style. Much like their punk forebears, the core of this band’s music is societal commentary. In ‘Second Hand Emotion’, the band express their deep anxiety and dissatisfaction with the UK’s political climate, as singer Fred puts it: "The image explores the vulnerability I feel in today’s society and this idea that we have a voice. In my opinion we don’t have a voice or at least a voice that will be heard. The abstract nature of the image provokes thought. What ever that may be is irrelevant because it’s your own unique thought! Your second hand emotion.” The music itself shares DNA with American rockers The Stooges with the pop-leaning sensibilities of Scots Franz Ferdinand. All of these various elements come together in a video filmed at Manchester venue The Bread Shed, directed by Matthew Boone and producer by Scruff Of The Neck, and you can watch that below. - Hannah Thacker
